A duck blind gets crowded fast: several hunters, several shotguns, a dog running in and out, plus mud, rain and ice. The usual setup, guns leaning in a notch cut into a 2x4 or propped between two nails, leaves stocks sticking out where they get kicked and guns that can fall. A real duck blind gun holder fixes that.
This guide covers what to look for and why CoJo's answer is a two-part system: the CoJo Blind Pack.

What Makes a Good Duck Blind Gun Holder
- The gun stands up straight instead of leaning, with lots of steel-to-magnet contact.
- The stock stays in place so it can't be kicked out from under the gun.
- Everything stays against the wall, out of the walkway.
- It handles the weather: mud, rain and ice.
- It's easy for everyone, including kids and new hunters, without having to think about it.
Why Leaning Guns Fall
CoJo points out that hunters naturally lean guns at about a 20° angle. That gives very little magnet-to-barrel contact, and the stock sits out in the middle of the blind where it can get kicked. Holding the barrel is only half the problem. You also have to control the stock.
The CoJo Blind Pack: CoJo Gun Magnet + CoJo Gun Assperatus
Top: CoJo Gun Magnet
The CoJo Gun Magnet holds the barrel in a magnetized V-notch, using two of the highest-grade neodymium rare-earth magnets in a non-marring polypropylene finish. Size: 4"L x 2"W x 3/4"H.
Bottom: CoJo Gun Assperatus ("Keeps Your Butt in Line")
The CoJo Gun Assperatus is shaped to secure the butt of the gun and position it at 90° every time. It's made of soft polypropylene and has:
- Holes for screw mounting in blinds, stands, ATVs and UTVs
- Slots for zip-tying in climbing and ladder stands
- Belt slots for strapping around trees in flooded timber
- Teeth for gripping carpet
Size: 7 1/2"L x 3 1/2"W x 2 1/2"H.
Together, the barrel sits in the magnet and the stock sits in the Assperatus. The long gun stands straight at 90° against the wall, completely out of the way. CoJo calls the Assperatus an automatic habit breaker, because hunters place the gun correctly without even thinking about it.

Duck Blind Gun Holder vs Clamps and DIY Racks
A notched 2x4 or a set of nails is cheap, but it doesn't hold the barrel or control the stock. Clamp-style holders grip the gun but need to match its size. We cover this in detail in Duck Blind Gun Holder: Clamp vs Magnet System. For how to keep your shotgun ready to shoot, read How to Keep a Shotgun Ready in a Duck Blind. For why the two pieces work best together, see Why Hunters Use a Gun Magnet and Assperatus Together.
Not Just for Duck Blinds
CoJo says the Blind Pack also works in deer stands (ladder, strap-on and box), UTVs, golf carts and duck boats. See our deer stand gun holder guide, or Best UTV Gun Rack for the ride in.
Hunt safe: unload before you set your gun down, keep muzzles pointed in a safe direction, and follow your state's hunting regulations.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best shotgun holder for a duck blind?
We built the CoJo Blind Pack for it. The CoJo Gun Magnet holds the barrel and the CoJo Gun Assperatus holds the stock, so the gun stands straight at 90°.
Can I make a DIY duck blind gun holder?
Many hunters start with a notched 2x4 or nails. The problem is that guns lean, the stocks stick out, and they can be kicked over. That’s the problem the Blind Pack was built to solve.
Will it work in flooded timber?
Yes. The CoJo Gun Assperatus has belt slots for strapping around trees in flooded timber.
Will the magnet scratch my shotgun?
