Gun Magnet Mount: CoJo Gun Gripper vs CoJo Gun Magnet

CoJo Gun Gripper or CoJo Gun Magnet? Compare magnets, coatings, fit and mounting, and learn if magnetic gun mounts are safe for your firearm.

CoJo Gun Gripper holding a 1911 pistol

CoJo makes two flat magnetic gun mounts: the original CoJo Gun Magnet and the CoJo Gun Gripper. Both hold a firearm securely, out of sight and within reach, and both come with mounting hardware. They're built differently, though, and the right one depends on where you're mounting and what you're holding.

Which One Should You Buy?

  • A pistol at your desk, nightstand or vehicle console: the CoJo Gun Magnet. Its V shape takes any angle, and multi-packs cover several spots.
  • A shotgun on a wall, over a door or on a safe: the CoJo Gun Gripper.
  • A tight, curved spot like under a dash: the CoJo Gun Gripper's smaller, flat body. See Gun Magnet for Car.
  • Long guns flush to a wall with the barrel protected: also look at the CoJo U-Mag, whose U shape protects the barrel on 3 sides.
  • Duck blind or deer stand: the CoJo Gun Magnet with the Assperatus (the CoJo Blind Pack).

Are Gun Magnets Safe?

This is the most common question we get. Here's what matters:

  • Your finish. Bare metal-on-metal can scratch. CoJo mounts are coated: polypropylene on the CoJo Gun Magnet, TPU on the CoJo Gun Gripper. Both are made to be non-marring.
  • Hold. A weak magnet is the real risk, because the gun can fall. CoJo uses the highest-grade neodymium magnets.
  • Your gun has to have steel. A magnet only holds ferrous steel. Most slides, barrels and receivers do, but test where your gun meets the mount before you trust it.
  • Kids and access. A magnet mount is about quick access, not locking. Mount it out of children's reach, or use locked storage where kids are present.

How to Install a Magnetic Gun Mount

  1. Pick the spot and test it with your unloaded gun.
  2. Check what's behind the surface (wires, airbags, plumbing) before you drill.
  3. Screw-mount with the included hardware. The CoJo Gun Magnet has two grommeted holes.
  4. Test the hold, then practice your draw.

Can you mount a gun magnet without screws? CoJo's mounts are designed to screw-mount with the included hardware, and that's the setup we stand behind for a secure hold.

Safety first: firearm transport and storage laws vary by state and city. Check your state and local laws before you carry or mount a firearm, and always keep guns out of reach of children.
