Where to mount a gun magnet
Duck blind and shooting porch
This is where the Gun Magnet started. Turn the long gun sideways and set the barrel against the magnet, and the gun is held safe and secure up against your shooting porch. Mount one per hunter along the blind rail or shooting bench and every shotgun has its own spot. For hunting, we recommend the CoJo Blind Pack: the Gun Magnet paired with the Assperatus stock holder, so your long gun stands at 90° with the butt secured. Deer stands: climbing, ladder and box stands
In a deer stand, the Gun Magnet gives your rifle or shotgun a set place to rest once you're settled in, so it isn't propped against a rail or balanced across your lap. Screw it to a box stand wall or the stand's rail, or mount it with adhesive. See all deer stand gun holders.
In the truck: under the dash or the steering wheel
A common install outside the field is under the dash beside the steering column, where a revolver nests its cylinder in the V and stays in a set place in the cab. It also mounts on the side console and inside the glovebox. Pick a flat, solid spot clear of your knees, the pedals, the steering column's movement and any airbag deployment zone, and out of direct sun where you can. For more placement ideas, see where to mount a gun magnet in your car, and if you're carrying long guns, read how to store a rifle in a truck.
Under a desk or beside the nightstand
At home, the Gun Magnet mounts under a desk or behind a nightstand, so a firearm has one consistent place to rest instead of sitting loose in a drawer or on top of the furniture. Mount it only in a room where you control who comes and goes. Our guide to home, desk and safe mounting spots covers more locations around the house.
UTVs
Customer photos on this page also show the Gun Magnet on a UTV roll cage, holding shotguns by the barrel. For a full side-by-side rack setup, see our UTV gun rack guide. More real installs are in CoJo in Action.
Will the Gun Magnet hold my gun?
The Gun Magnet works with rifles, shotguns, semi-automatic pistols and revolvers:
-
Rifles and shotguns: turn the gun sideways and set the barrel against the magnet. The two magnets draw the barrel into the center of the V.
-
Semi-automatic pistols: the ribs inside the face let a pistol sit at any angle or position.
-
Revolvers: the cylinder nests into the V.
Beyond firearms, the Gun Magnet also holds gun magazines, knives and other magnetic (ferromagnetic) items, which is handy at the blind, on the workbench or in the truck. Attach it to your belt with the two belt loops to keep it with you.

Safe use and secure storage
The Gun Magnet was made to make the blind and the stand safer places, but a gun magnet is a holder, not a lock. It keeps a firearm in one set place; it does not stop anyone else from picking it up.
-
Store it locked when you're away. When you're not there to supervise, move the firearm to a locked safe or lockbox. Don't leave a firearm unattended in a vehicle.
-
Keep it away from children and unauthorized users. When kids are along on the hunt, an adult handles every firearm. At home, mount only where you control access and where a child can't reach the firearm.
-
Follow the law. Federal, state and local laws on carrying, transporting and storing firearms in vehicles and at home vary. Check the rules where you live, drive and hunt.
-
Check it before you drive. Before you move the vehicle, make sure the firearm is seated securely and the mount is tight. Don't place or remove a firearm while driving.
-
Keep the trigger clear. The Gun Magnet does not cover the trigger guard. Place and remove the firearm with your finger off the trigger, and mount it where nothing can press the trigger and the muzzle points in a safe direction.
-
In the field, follow hunter-safety practice: unload before climbing into a stand or entering the blind, and use the Blind Pack so long guns stand secured at the butt as well as the barrel.
Care
The Gun Magnet can be used both indoors and outdoors. A little care keeps it working:
-
Check the mounting. Every so often, and especially in blinds, stands, trucks and UTVs, make sure the screws or adhesive are still holding tight.
-
Keep it clean. The magnets are fully covered by an Absolutely Non-Marring polypropylene finish where the firearm touches. Wipe the mount with a damp cloth and mild soap, dry it, and brush off sand, mud, grit and metal filings before setting a firearm on it, so nothing gets trapped between the mount and your gun's finish.
-
Go easy on chemicals. Keep harsh solvents and aggressive gun-cleaning chemicals off the mount, and wipe away any that drip onto it while you clean your gun.
-
Mind heat and sun. Avoid leaving it in direct sun or in a closed, hot vehicle for long periods. In the truck, a spot under the dash or on the console beats the top of the dash.
-
Handle gently in freezing cold. Plastic gets stiffer when it's very cold, so don't knock, pry or drop the mount in freezing weather.
-
Replace it if the cover is damaged. If the polypropylene cover is cracked or damaged, replace the mount.

Frequently asked questions
What guns does the CoJo Gun Magnet hold?
It works with rifles, shotguns, semi-automatic pistols and revolvers. Ribs inside the face let a pistol sit at any angle or position, a revolver's cylinder nests into the V, and for a rifle or shotgun you turn the gun sideways and set the barrel against the magnet. It holds anything magnetic; non-magnetic materials won't stick, and it also holds gun magazines, knives and other ferromagnetic items.
How do I mount it?
Screw it into any surface through its two grommeted holes (hardware included). You can also mount it with adhesive. The two belt loops let you attach the magnet to your belt.
Is the CoJo Gun Magnet patented?
Yes. The Gun Magnet has a U.S.-patented V-shape design.
How strong is the CoJo Gun Magnet?
Very strong. Now 25% stronger, it has 2 highest grade neodymium rare-earth magnets that draw everything to the center of the V, and in CoJo's own words, it will pick up just about any size gun.
What part of the mount touches my gun?
Polypropylene. The magnets are fully covered by polypropylene where the firearm touches, and the polypropylene cover is non-marring. Keep the surface clean and free of sand, mud, grit and metal filings so nothing gets trapped between the mount and your gun's finish.
Can I use the Gun Magnet outdoors?
Yes. It can be used both indoors and outdoors: in a duck blind, a deer stand, a truck, a UTV or at home. Avoid leaving it in direct sun or a closed, hot vehicle for long periods, handle it gently in freezing cold, and replace the mount if the polypropylene cover is ever cracked or damaged.
Is a gun magnet safe storage?
A gun magnet is a holder, not a lock. It keeps a firearm in one set place but does not stop anyone else from picking it up, and it does not cover the trigger guard. Keep firearms away from children and unauthorized users, use a locked safe or lockbox when you are away, and follow the firearm storage and transport laws where you live and hunt.
Which pack size should I buy?
The 1-Pack ($29.99) covers one spot. The 2-Pack ($54.99) covers two hunters in a blind, or a truck plus a nightstand. The 4-Pack ($104.99) suits a family blind or several spots, and the Hunt-Safe 6-Pack ($149.99) lines a duck blind or shooting porch rail. Standard shipping is free on orders over $99.
