If you carry a pistol in your car or truck, it needs a set place. A gun in the door pocket, cup holder or loose under the seat slides around, is hard to reach, and can end up where you don't want it. A gun magnet or vehicle holster gives your pistol a fixed spot that you can reach the same way every time.
Here's how a magnetic mount compares with a holster, where to put a gun magnet in a car, and which CoJo products fit.
Gun Magnet vs Holster for Your Car
| Magnetic mount (CoJo Gun Magnet / Gun Gripper) | Vehicle holster | |
|---|---|---|
| How it holds | Strong neodymium magnet holds the pistol’s steel | Shell around the gun, often a sized fit |
| Gun fit | CoJo Gun Magnet: universal fit for semi-autos, revolvers, rifles and shotguns | Usually fits specific pistols or sizes |
| Mounting spots | Side console, under dash, glove box and more | Depends on design |
| Draw | Pull straight off the magnet | Draw from the shell |
| CoJo option today | In stock | CoJo Vehicle Holster is sold out (Back Soon) |
A note on the CoJo Vehicle Holster: it's CoJo's magnetic holster built for the vehicle, but it's currently sold out and listed as "Back Soon." Until it's back, the CoJo Gun Magnet and CoJo Gun Gripper are the in-stock way to mount a pistol in your vehicle.
Under Dash Pistol Mount: The Most Popular Spot
CoJo calls under the dash probably the most popular location. In our own setup, we used the CoJo Gun Gripper to mount a Browning 1911 under the dash of a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Its compact, flat profile (3"L x 2"W x 7/8"H) fit the curve in the corner under the dash perfectly.

Why the CoJo Gun Gripper works under the dash:
- One solid neodymium rare-earth magnet, which CoJo calls the strongest magnet on the market.
- TPU rubber-like coating with a raised gripping pattern.
- Magnetic on both front and back, and it mounts flush.
- Keeps your firearm out of sight. Hardware is included.
CoJo Gun Gripper: $34.99, in stock.
Where to Put a Gun Magnet in a Car
The CoJo Gun Magnet's product page lists the side console, under the dash and the glove box. Here's how each spot works:
- Under the dash: reachable from the driver's seat and out of sight from outside.
- Side of the console: easy to conceal, yet still very accessible.
- Console or glove box: we mounted a CoJo Gun Magnet here so the pistol is tucked away but won't slide around while the vehicle is moving.

The CoJo Gun Magnet uses two of the highest-grade neodymium rare-earth magnets in a V-shaped design, is magnetic on both sides, and lets pistols sit at any angle or position. It has a non-marring polypropylene finish and two grommeted mounting holes, and it can hold an extra mag. Size: 4"L x 2"W x 3/4"H. From $29.99 (1-, 2-, 4- and 6-packs, so you can do his and hers or every vehicle).

Where to Put a Gun Safe in a Car
Some states or situations call for locked storage, like leaving the car parked somewhere you can't carry. A magnet mount is for access, not locking. If you need a locking car safe, plan for it separately, and use a magnet mount for when you're in the vehicle.
Are Gun Magnets Legal in a Car?
A magnet is just a mount. The law governs how you carry the gun: open or concealed, loaded or unloaded, and with or without a permit. CoJo notes a permanently mounted gun in an open space may be readily available but not considered concealed, so the rules can change based on where you mount it. Laws differ by state (Texas, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina all have their own rules). Read your state's laws, and teach gun safety in the vehicle. For long guns in trucks, see How to Store a Rifle in a Truck.
Safety first: firearm transport and storage laws vary by state and city. Check your state and local laws before you carry or mount a firearm, and always keep guns out of reach of children.
